Executive Summary
I am currently a senior studying Business to Business Marketing at James Madison University. When I complete my college career, I plan to work in market research, advertising, marketing communications, or sales. I am currently in the process of searching for a entry-level job that allows me to utilize the marketing skills that I have obtained through coursework, internships, and extracurricular activities.
During the summer of 2012, I worked as a full time intern for SimVentions, a government contractor located in Fredericksburg, VA. SimVentions specializes in Modeling and Simulation, Systems Engineering, and Software Engineering. Some of their main customers include the United State's Navy, the Department of Defense's (DoD) Modeling and Simulation Coordination Office (M&S CO), and the Defense Acquisition University (DAU). My main responsibility was to develop and implement a marketing plan to promote one of SimVentions' customers at the Interservice/Industry Training, Simulation, and Education Conference (I/ITSEC). My marketing strategy was focused on social media, email, on-site, and video marketing. (Marketing materials will be posted as the event approaches.)
I partnered with a Virginia Tech Visual Communications major to develop an advertising campaign for SimVentions' software tools. I focused on the written content and visual layout of the advertisements. All of the tool advertisements can be viewed by clicking the "Advertisement Portfolio" tab on the navigation toolbar.
My third priority as an intern was serving on the STEM16 committee. STEM16 is a Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) education group located in the Fredericksburg region. I have been responsible for maintaining their social media websites and developing presentations to promote the group. STEM16's Facebook link is can be found here.
On the navigation bar, click "Coursework Examples" to view a sample of recent experiences, projects, and accomplishments I have accrued during my college marketing career. I have served on the JMU Special Olympics Philanthropy Committee, which raised over $20,000 within the past two years. While serving on this committee, I learned effective ways to solicit and advertise our philanthropic efforts to the JMU student body and alumni. This year, I am serving as the Business Sponsorship Chairman for the JMU Special Olympics Philanthropy. I have also been an active member in the Madison Marketing Association (MMA). As a member of MMA's Special Events committee, I was responsible for advertising the annual Networking Banquet to local businesses within the Harrisonburg community. Many local businesses donated gifts to our Networking Banquet's raffle, which allowed them to advertise their business to the JMU community.
James Madison University's College of Business challenging curriculum has enabled me to develop valuable marketing skills as well. Under "Coursework Examples," there are examples of academic assignments and business letters that I have written. These selections demonstrate my ability to communicate critical information in a clear and concise written manner. Various other examples of coursework such as accounting, managerial science, and computer science are also available. Although these disciplines are not directly related to marketing, I feel that an effective marketer must have a basic understanding of how a business operates. References, credentials and contact information are available on the "Reference" tab. If you wish to view a more detailed explanation of my career qualifications, feel free to explore the "My Career Goals and Qualifications" tab above.
